The Fine Art of Elizabeth Holm Cole
Encouraged in my artistic endeavors by teachers in grade school and loving every flower and grasshopper along the way, I was already sensitive to nature and to the beginnings of a love of art.
Since attending the Art Students League in New York City early on, I have been painting all of my adult life. The need to do so and fascination with began long before and grew stronger as time passed.
As a child I developed a love of most animals, domesticated and wild. Then I loved nothing more than to run around the woods. I was fascinated with everything there—the trees, the birds, and occasional wildlife to be seen. This passion endured. Leaves and branches, the edges and holes, the value changes, the variety of color in different seasons became of endless fascination and interest.
I often feel teased by perched birds as they are immersed in the immediate, there for a moment and so at home in the leaves, branches, and the trees. At rest, all would seem peaceful—then change in a second, spectacles of flight and seeming freedom—off to where? Is it all right? Again, back to the perch.
I love it all.
A need to paint and a desire to portray nuanced nature are the basis of my journey of discovery.
